Still reeling from the sudden death of her composer father, thirteen-year-old Katie faces bullies at school, her mother's weird new friends, and a mystery that must be solved before it's too late. Thirteen-year-old Katie is furious at her mother for many things - moving them to her father's old home town right after his death, making her leave her friends behind and go to this new school. But what makes Katie the angriest is that her mother won't even talk about her father's death. She's too wrapped up in getting started on her new life, and all she can talk about is selling his precious piano, the one he died at while composing a new opera for a mysterious patron. At her new school, Katie is dealing with the class bully, and reluctantly making new friends. At home, she's got her distracted mother, her father's close friend who's way too friendly, and a couple of real weirdos who are there to set up an authentic French lavender cafA(c). She's relieved when she makes friends with an older woman who lives nearby, someone who loves the piano nearly as much as she does and her father did. However, none of these people are who they seem to be, and the situation is turning deadly. Can Katie and her new friends unravel the mystery before someone else dies?
