This collection of 34 essays by women who are scientists and mothers will naturally interest other women with careers or ambitions in science and engineering; but the audience could also include male co-workers, spouses, and bosses as well as educators and policy planners. The narratives are personal accounts (no references), reasonably brief-about four pages each. Arranged chronologically beginning with experiences in the 1970s, they highlight challenges, frustrations, and attitudes that have shifted and some that just don't seem to change. Taken together they offer support and hope for flexibility in the workplace and on the home front. Editor Monosson, an independent toxicologist based in Massachusetts, supplies a concluding essay that includes references that support statistics and assertions regarding women in the sciences.
