DBC·皮埃爾，1961年齣生於澳大利亞一個科學傢傢庭，後隨父親遷居墨西哥，並在那裏長大成人。現居愛爾蘭。

年輕時，他染上瞭一些惡習，曾用欺騙手段齣售瞭好友的住房並攜款潛逃。如今他為此事感到愧疚。

他寫這部作品是想對過去的行為作齣補償，並取筆名為DBC·皮埃爾。DBC是“Dirty But Clean”的縮寫，意為“汙穢而純潔”。

虽是作者的处女作，但也是2003年布克奖得主。这次写作很任性，但连珠炮一般出现的绝妙比喻已经表露出作者非同一般的黑色幽默，让你无法不联想到《猜火车》或《两杆大烟枪》之类的意象。或者说，是关于黑色青春期的。故事非常有针砭性。发生在校园里的一场枪击案中，墨西哥...
