著者簡介
邁剋爾•多布斯生於北愛爾蘭首府貝爾法斯特，畢業於約剋大學，曾受普林斯頓大學和哈佛大學的研究資助。現為《華盛頓郵報》的一名記者，任職生涯的多數時光奔波於國外。他的《打倒老大哥：蘇維埃帝國的滅亡》入圍美國筆會奬最終角逐。現居馬裏蘭州貝塞斯達。

评分紙牌屋作者對冷戰史上最重大曆史事件的記述，腔調接近小說，不乏令人失笑的黑色幽默。作者認為，雖然危機的解決靠的是美蘇最高領導人共同的曆史使命感，但危機的升級和發展實際上是被無數名不見經傳的小人物的sonofabitch moment牽動的，而最終危機的解決實際上不過是雙方領導人重新奪迴控製權的結果。但從曆史的長期視角來看，勝負並無定論: 美國的勝利最終轉化為自負和僵化的套路，導緻越戰的失控以及先發製人戰略形成; 蘇聯屈辱的撤軍成瞭更大軍費投入的理由和蘇聯解體的序幕; 而被大國玩弄的卡斯特羅成為幸存者，卻也導緻古巴今日的落後。
