这本书的特点在于，在叙述发生过的那些事的同时，附加了自己分析得来的观点和评论，读起来比较容易引发思考。看完这本书，对日本历史的发展脉络掌握得更加清晰，扫清了一些认识上的盲点，在浏览其他资料时就不会感到特别吃力。

同属世界历史文库的选取标准，怎么比起俄国和法国，日本史这么单薄呢也就两百多页。关键还选了个美国作者的著作，这方面我猜测是由于中日关系的微妙性，太久的历史渊源和戏剧性冲突变化导致要选择一部既在学术上够标准又在中国“政治正确”的日本历史书，本身空间就不是很大。...
