讀的第一本40k係列小說，硬，畫麵感十足，簡直能腦補電影。龐大的世界和非凡的時間跨度營造齣史詩感的背景，渺小的視角又帶來那種被碾壓的宿命意味。戰爭場麵和宇宙寫的壯觀而富有魅力，可惜陰謀和密謀這方麵不夠完善..上校和開頭的角色那邊基本沒用到。在日後的觀點來看這一切都像是“醜角”一樣，荷魯斯會反叛，被帝皇殺死，混沌混入人心......
评分凡人部隊、Cabal間諜、阿爾法軍團、Nurthene之間的四方混戰。大量信息戰和間諜戰情節讓HH的大背景更加紛繁復雜。人心、陰謀和戰局相互交織，Cabal和Perpetual的設定撲朔迷離。節奏把控、情節處理達到瞭HH係列新高度——讀戰錘小說很容易讓人因為一些細節和寫作技法感到滿足，因為僅從黑圖書館填補設定任務的角度齣發，這些情節原本可以寫得非常粗糙。
