Luisa Domic is a novel of contempo-
rary good and evil--of family life and
the nurturing spirit invaded by political
terror and the specter of mass murder.
The story begins with the narrator,
his wife and three children living on a
Maine farm in the golden days of Octo-
ber. Into their household come three
visitors. The first is Harold Ashby, an
old friend, famous once as a composer,
who now works with autistic children.
His arrival is followed by Marshall Bet-
ringer, a political writer and activist,
who is traveling with a Chilean woman
named Luisa DomE, a mature woman
of gifts and personal power, numb with
suffering. The time is 1971. Luisa has
escaped from the infamous stadium in
Santiago where several thousands have
been executed by the new regime. Still
in a state of shock, she is being taken
to a sanctuary in Canada.
