Set in the grand plantations and makeshift
theaters of the antebellum South, here is
the enchanting story of a young actress who
is forced to choose between the career she
loves and the vast plantation she inherits.
Valerie Hunter grew up in the wings,
watching her famous mother. A famous
French dancer, Celeste Hunter gave up the
theater to marry a Louisiana planter, Val-
erie s father. But Celeste s love for another
man lured her away from Chantilly, the
Hunter plantation, and back to the stage.
One night Celeste disappears again--this
time leaving Valerie behind. The young girl
soon displays all her mother s fire and twice
her mother s talent. She stays on with the
shabby acting company, adopted and loved
by all.
