by the growing encroachment of the state into areas where it has no business
Whitehead shows how the state has increasingly gained control over education,
family life, and the church--areas that were previously under the control of indi-
viduals or local government. The result has been the erosion of our God-giver
and constitutionally gua[anteed freedoms and the rise of atheistic secularism.
Sadly, Christians must share a large part of the blame for this. For too long w~;
have sat by passively and watched our freedoms being taken from us one by
one. No longer can we afford to do nothing. We must get involved--in local public
school systems to ensure that our children are not being indoctrinated with anti-
Christian ideology; in Christian education, if the public schools are unresponsive;
in litigation, if necessary, to protect the rights of parents and families, and the
rights of churches.
The time to start is now. The place to begin is with this book.
