<p>Matter is anything that occupies space. It includes any of the substances that we can see, feel, or perceive by the senses--plants, animals, air, water, rocks, soil, metals---in short, the substances composing the earth, the moon, the sun, and the stars are what is meant by the word "matter." Energy is the ability to do work or the capacity to put matter in motion. There are different forms in which energy is manifested, such as heat, light, electricity, motion, and chemical energy.</p>
