The untimely death of author
Richard W. Darrow slowed but
couldn t halt the revision he had
begun on this second edition of the
Dartnell Public Relations Handbook.
Darrow and coauthor Dan J.
Forrestal had both agreed that the
growth and changes in public
relations practices required what
amounted to a complete revision of
this book they had coauthored
along with Aubrey (~ookman in 1967.
When illness made the writing chore
too difficult, Darrow called on his
close friend and business associate,
Edward J. Doherty, senior vice
president of Hill and Knowlton, Inc.,
to work with him. Doherty took up the
mantle, and following Dick Darrow s
death, became totally involved in
the writing effoff.
