Chris Anastos is a New York City cop. He
was assigned to infiltrate a Greek neighbor-
hood in Queens to determine whether
there was a link between the Greek and Ital-
ian underworlds. As a member of the New
York City Police Department Intelligence
Division he began uncovering mob corrup-
tion, illegal gambling clubs, and drug dens
in the city. As Chris the cop, he had a wife
and in-laws, nieces and nephews, bills to
pay, an apartment in a residential neighbor-
hood
Working undercover, Chris fitted in well
with the Greeks and Italians. He was ac-
cepted because he was believable. And he
was believable because he had become the
person he pretended to be. Beyond the
dress and mannerisms, the language and
the gestures, the way of walking and talking
and scheming, Chris felt like a "wiseguy"
on his way up. He took part in the deals--
he was included in meetings; he entered the
world of a Long Island Mafia boss--he was
