Caring is a strong word. David Brown believes it should
be the most potent and virile word in a Christian s vocabu-
lary. Caring is what we mean by loving the unlovable, or
having condern for the powerless and oppressed.
We are God s caretakers with access to all the treasures
in his storehouse. We can use them, we can possess them,
but we are accountable for the manner in which we take
care of them. "Stewards" is one word to describe care-
takers of the goodness of Christ.
Caretaking responsibilities reach beyond the way we use
our money. We are learning new ways to care for the earth,
to become better citizens, and how to live as family mem-
bers. We can also see caring as a Christian s "response-
ability." God showers his good gifts on us and even em-
powers us with his Holy Spirit that we may have the ability
or capacity to respond.
