Lily Takes a Walk pdf epub mobi txt 电子书 下载 2024
From Publishers Weekly On a stroll with her hyper-imaginative dog, Lily remains blissfully--and comically--unaware of the "monsters" that Nicky sees on all sides; according to PW , "inventive details on each page make this a walk well worth taking." Ages 4-6. Copyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc. From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 3 The straightforward text tells of Lily and her dog Nicky's stroll through town, while the illustrations show Nicky fending off real and imagined monsters on every page (a snake, a mailbox with teeth, a dinosaur). At the end, Nicky is safe in his basket when, on a final foldout page, he is frightened by a family of mice. The simple childlike drawings of Lily and Nicky and the details of the city setting have a charm that should appeal to children, but the book does not work successfully as a whole. Some of the ``monsters'' that the dog sees are so subtly portrayed that they may be missed until Nicky reviews them in image balloons near the end of the story. The playful visual activity of looking for monsters in everyday items is abandoned for very obvious fantasy near the end. This book is a clever idea with an appropriately humorous ending, but for a more skillful look at the interplay between the real and the imaginary, go back to Raskin's Nothing Ever Happens on My Block (Atheneum, 1966) or to Seuss' first masterpiece, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street (Vanguard, 1937).
