Dancing was an essential part of life in Shakespeare's England, and it occurs in almost all of Shakespeare's plays from 1607 onwards. In this reprint of an essential text Dr. Brissenden shows that for Shakespeare it was also an accepted symbol of harmony, and was regularly used by him to express one of his major themes, the attempt to achieve order in a discordant world.
