Frangois-Joseph Fitis had the privilege to have Paganini, Schumann and Berlioz as contemporaries and to be assisted by the famous violin maker and dealer, Jean Baptiste Vuillaume on this work. This fascinating treatise was first published in 1856 (Antoine Stradivari, luthier cilhbre). Its chapters detail the history and development of the violin family, old master Italian violin makers and an analysis of the bows of Frangois Tourte.
