What is the use of social theory to historians, and of history to social theorists? 彼得•伯克，出生于1937年，英国当代著名历史学家。毕业于牛津大学，获博士学位。现为剑桥大学文化史荣休教授、伊曼纽尔学院研究员。
已出版《意大利文艺复兴》（1972）、《欧洲近代早期的大众文化》（1978）、《历史学与社会理论》（1991）、《制造路易十四》（1992）、《知识社会史》（2000）、《图像证史》（2000）、《什么是文化史》（2004）和《近代早期欧洲的语言和共同体》（2004）、《文化杂交》（2009）等多部著作。
