圍繞著intersubjectivity這個概念來分析domination，尤其是服從者為什麼甘心忍受的問題，從前俄狄浦斯的母嬰關係談到俄狄浦斯階段的背棄母親，從中尋找社會性彆不平等的根源。受Winnicott、Stern等人啓發很大，也提到瞭喬多羅的母職再生産，但認為喬多羅沒能根本解決問題，而是將問題不斷推給上一代。但作者的解決方式和喬多羅比也並沒有先進或實用到哪裏去，還是認為主要問題在父親而非母親被認為是外在的化身，成為嬰孩尋求外界認同的主要對象。最後一章還提到瞭托管問題，認為那些反對托管的人是理想化瞭母親，錶示母親離開孩子産生destruction的願望但發現沒能成功時，纔能意識到外在現實和心理現實的區彆，母親也是主體。核心是tension的保持，徵服和屈從都是尋求認同的扭麯形式
