年中認識一位朋友，聊及喜愛的讀物，對方說自己從不看fiction，今年纔開始第一部。我則答從不愛讀non-fiction，今年終於開始第一本。那時我在東京正讀Aciman的Out of Egypt愛不釋手，Aciman筆下的Alexandria混雜著不同的氣味，辛辣而芬芳。我閉眼迴想坐在代官山蔦屋書店對麵的露天餐廳，暴雨後撲麵而來的青草味。走在中目黑河邊，快要被太陽曬的烤焦的味道，還有街邊小店販賣的袋裝飲料，玫瑰樹莓混閤，和檸檬百香果交換後，無法迴憶起哪個味道在舌尖占瞭上風。傍晚的代代木公園，坐在長椅上凝視腳下甲殼蟲在陰影裏散步，如刀刻般停留在腦海中，泥土的芳香。氣味使迴憶復活，我們各自迴到魂牽夢縈之地。感謝Aciman，讓我的迴憶也似他的文字般，溫暖而惆悵。

這是我近年來讀到的最好的迴憶錄，有人稱它為當代的《追憶似水年華》不為過。如紐約時報評論：（此書）是對一個已經消失的世界令人沉迷的描繪。艾席濛的英文詩意盎然，結構和用詞都十分優美。如他所有的書和小說，他喜歡寫長句子，但卻清晰易讀。他在亞曆山大市十四年的生活即優越富足旖旎又充滿沉思和內在的痛苦，我喜歡洛杉磯時報的評論：Out of Egypt is beautifully remembered and even more beautifully written. 如果有人翻譯，請一定把原著的情感和優美譯齣來。艾席濛優美的散文句子prose在美國讀者中是備受肯定和稱贊的, 即便隻讀英文都是偌大的享受。此外，他重新定義瞭迴憶錄的寫作，如何理解準確，是事件發生的準確度還是記憶感受的準確度。5/5.
