This book focuses on the youth film is an invention of the 1950s in Chinese communities. Also, this book discusses in the second half of the decade starting in the year 2000 appeared certain youth styles/images and promoted certain perspectives on young people’s psychological well-being. By giving Chinese youth more ‘power’ of selfidentification, youth films in recent decades have begun to place more responsibility on young characters to deal with their journey through adolescence. This journey offers any number of directions and route, but their destination is always to approach maturity. Timothy Shary initiated his earlier academic study on ‘teen film’. His work on gender continued in studies of youth cinema. His works inspired the author of this book to look at the development of youth genre in Chinese context, as well as to give a more precise definition of Chinese youth genre and sub-genres.

作者简介

Dr Wang Changsong, published a number of articles about youth genre and Chinese youth cinema. He is a Senior Lecturer of School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He is an expert member of BNU Asia and Chinese-language Cinema Research Center (China), also a founder of Creative Visual Awards-the student short film competition in Malaysia.

王昌松博士是马来西亚理科大学传媒学院（School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia）影视传播系高级讲师，博士生导师，现任亚洲及华语电影研究中心专家、中国知网国际出版中心质检专家。2011年，在马来西亚创办首个大学生电影节Creative Visual Awards，该电影节吸引了世界各地的大学生电影爱好者、电影业界人士的积极参与，其中包括马来西亚动画电影之父Hassan Abd Muthalib等。2014年于马来西亚理科大学获得博士学位后留校任教，是目前该院唯一的外籍讲师。著有《华人在英国电影中的形象“是什么”——浅谈华人文化身份》、《华人新年贺岁档：马来西亚唯一的电影“档期”》、《马来西亚电影：跨越界域与多种族文化的影像》、《巴西电影：九十年代后的新生》等。此外，在数十个国际学术刊物上已发表了大量有关青春电影的英文论文。
