Bastet, the ancient Egyptian cat-goddess, communicates with Maggie, who is spending a year in Cairo with her diplomat mother and artist father, to help the children of Egypt and to save the goddess's temple. Maggie, with the help of an Egyptian boy she has befriended, as well as the multitude of cats wandering freely through the city, must work against the threat of an American industrial development which will force impoverished children of Egypt into near-slavery conditions in a new factory.
