A painter of international repute, Kees van Dongen (1877-1968) is perhaps best known for his enthusiastic adoption of Fauvism; a movement whose principles he embraced with boundless curiosity and with which he established a singular and dominant position. However, beyond this he was also a prolific graphic artist who mastered the techniques of lithography, etching, aquatint, engraving, pochoir and offset prints, book illustration and poster design.
