The inventor of simultaneous colour printing, Stanley William Hayter (1901 -- 88) was the most influential printmaker of this century. The founder of Atelier 17 in Paris, he had contact with all the major Cubist, Surrealist and Abstract Expressionist painters of the day. This definitive catalogue, begun under Hayter's direction, gives full information on some 450 original prints and has established itself as an important reference work for all those concerned with twentieth-century art and printmaking. It confirms Hayter's stature as a great artist, teacher and technical innovator. His widow, Desiree Moorhead, is co-author of the catalogue.
