Zapata Rose in 1992 is a new and greatly expanded edition of Keller's Tales of El Huitlacoche (1984), a distinguished collection of Chicano short stories. This volume contains the original four stories that have become favorites among many readers along with three new tales. All display "an infectious humor and vitality where English and Spanish are richly, exuberantly intermingled" (Anne Tyler). One of the stories was published in the Best of the Small Presses collection (Avon Books, 1977), and the book won the "Writers Choice" award sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts in 1985.
