Dr. Van Dyke presents a good discussion of the role of perturbation methods to fluid mechanics. Topics include an overview of perturbation methods (matched asympotic expansions, successive approximations, strained coordinates, etc.) as well a broad range of applications ranging from low speed viscous (Stokes) flows to hypersonic flows.

Milton Van Dyke is a professor emeritus of Stanford University who held joint appointments in Aero/Astro and Mechanical Engineering.

正如作者自己說的那樣，很多同行批評這本書寫的太簡潔瞭，換句話說，很難懂。主要是推導過程極其簡化，很難跟上作者的思路。但是關於perturbation method這本書又是繞不過的。
