This is the first collection of essays on the work of playwright Martin McDonagh. McDonagh was born in London in 1971 to Irish parents and his plays have been staged worldwide, including long runs on Broadway and the West End. He has received many awards and in 1998, he won four Tony awards for his play The Beauty Queen of Leenane. A World of Savage Stories brings together the work of over 30 international scholars and critics and through 39 essays, it examines McDonagh's work under the headings: Textual and Cultural Contexts; Critical Frameworks; and Performance Contexts.
