This amazing compilation covers 26 years (1980-2005) in the artistic life of Thomas Karsten. Arranged in chronological order, the pictures in this book can be read like a novel. Some of the models appear only once, but several, mostly women with a few couples and families, turn up repeatedly. This allows readers to observe how Karsten's models, as well as his methods, change over time. Everything about these photographs is dynamic: the point of view, the shapes of the models' bodies, even the way the subjects move and stand while they are being photographed changes. In these pages, the passage of time, takes on an immediate, palpable quality that, somehow is magical.
