Luca Molinari, in his essay, "Armin Linke and the Contemporary Sublime" questions rhetorically, "Is it possible to talk about an explosive, elusive world using a few visual fragments? Is it still conceivable to talk about the essence of reality in a cultural dimension that tends to view every perspective and philosophy in relativistic terms?" Later on he answers these questions, at least in part, by discussing the acceptance of nomadism as a condition of our culture. This last phrase really got me thinking. Am I a nomad? Am I transient in my life? Am I a transient? Well, to some extent, yes. Having moved my home and my office in the past month, I feel rather transient. Then, thinking about various friends who have moved locales several times in the past few years, we all seem rather transient at times, but without the pejorative connotations. Armin Linke has been mobile for the past decade, searching out and recording this new nomadism. This brilliant new title has been published on the occasion of a major exhibition at the Galleria Civica Modena in Italy, based on his over 30,000 rolls of film.
