Fabien Baron was born and raised in France, and studied briefly at the Ecole des Arts Appliques before moving to the U.S. in the early 80s. He has served as creative director for renowned international publications such as Italian Vogue, Interview and Harper's Bazaar, and is currently the creative director at French Vogue. Baron is also the founder of Baron & Baron, the powerful branding, advertising and packaging agency. He is the recipient of numerous design awards, including a special award for influence in art direction from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He lives and works in New York.
Spanning twenty years and two continents, the collection draws from over 2,000 photographs taken on the coasts of Eastern America, Western Europe, and the Mediterranean. As the title suggests, the book chronicles Baron’s transformation of concrete, geographical sites into abstract tableaux. Utilizing long exposure for each image, Baron reveals the most essential aspect of his subject matter: light.
