Robert O. Collins, professor of history at the University of California, Santa Barbara, is the author of Shadow in the Grass: Britain in the Southern Sudan, 1919-1956 and The Waters of the Nile: Hydropolitics and the Jonglei Canal, 1900-1988, as well as 24 other books. James McDonald Burns, Kathleen S. Hasselblad, and Erik Kristofer Ching, doctoral candidates at the University of California, Santa Barbara, are assisting as co-editors.
In a completely revised version of his "Problems" book (originally published in 1970), Professor Collins presents the most important issues in the study of colonial Africa such as: The Partition of Africa;Collaboration or Resistance to European Rule in Africa; Colonial Rule in Africa; Educating the African; Forging a National Identity; and, Exploitation or Development in Africa.
