Uzbekistan, 1916-60: A vibrant and surreal satire set in a small town on the ancient Silk Route. The town and its railway station see a plethora of characters: Mullahs, Bolsheviks, Uzbeks, Persians, Jews, Koreans, Tartars and gypsies, all in turn leaving their traces and stories, which are retold by the narrator.
