这是一本对全球101个大都市（都市圈）进行大量数据统计和发展分析的专著。统计资料包含城市面积、人口、经济、机场、港口、医疗、犯罪、污染等多方面的详细数据。本书为软精装，封面黑色加荧光橙色双色印刷。内页为了体现数据的比较，采用黑色、荧光橙、银色、珠光黄四色印刷，呈现出独特的视觉效果。珠光黄色为参与统计的城市中数据的最大值，荧光橙则为当前城市的数据占比，如此可清晰地看出这个城市在此数据上的等级。最后的部分按照统计数据的分类，将这些城市的数据放在同一页内进行横向对比。书籍数据量巨大，但通过图式的方式得到有趣的呈现。书中包含白、银两条绢面书签，用于在数据的海洋中查阅时不至于迷路。

2004年的书了，现在看来数据可能已经过时了。纸张和图都挺精致的。
