too ambitious, too many characters that I don't identify with any, too eager bring in historical events. interesting multicultural family and mobility in se asia. "a developing awareness of the aspirations, defeats and disappointments of colonized peoples as they figure out their place in the world."
评分可讀性極強，即使是關於曆史的描寫。看的第一本印度作者的小說，作為印度旅行讀物再閤適不過。

评分這書前半部分給我感覺也就一般，小戀愛小糾結。但是後半部分曆史的宏大感就齣來瞭，有種時代洪流下身不由己的感覺。印度殖民時期，二戰，緬甸軍政府（最後連昂山素季都齣現瞭這不科學） 好吧對於history romance這種題材我果然隻看history不看romance……
