《傅立葉分析導論》分為3部分：第1部分介紹傅立葉級數的基本理論及其在等周不等式和等分布中的應用；第2部分研究傅立葉變換及其在經典偏微分方程及Radom變換中的應用；第3部分研究有限阿貝爾群上的傅立葉分析。書中各章均有練習題及思考題。

Stein在國際上享有盛譽，現任美國普林斯頓大學數學係教授。

他是當代分析，特彆是調和分析和分析領域領袖人物之一。古典調和分析最睏難問題之一是推廣到多維。他是多維歐氏調和分析的創造者之一，為此他發展瞭許多先進工具如奇異積分、Radon變換、極大函數等。他還發展瞭多個實變元的Hardy空間理論，推廣瞭1971年F. John和L. Nirenberg的重要發現：即Hardy空間與BMO空間的對偶。在群上的調和分析方麵也有貢獻，例如同R.Kunze一起發現所謂Kunze-Stein現象。除此之外，他對多復變問題也做齣瞭突齣成績。

除瞭研究工作之外，他的許多書成為影響學科發展的重要參考文獻。為此，他榮獲1984年美國數學會在論述方麵的Steele奬。

由於他的成就，他在1974年被選為美國國傢科學院院士，1982年被選為美國文理學院院士，1993年獲得瑞士科學院頒發的Schock奬。1999年獲得世界性Wolf數學奬。
