怀旧空吟闻笛赋，到乡翻似烂柯人。不过，咖啡馆、小客栈、高谈阔论共和还是民主的人idled，代代大抵如此。悍妇妻子象征英国对早一代殖民者的压榨，村子是殖民者在新大陆的自由快乐生活，Rip回到一个独立后的美国，他震惊、迷茫、疑惑自己的Identity，最后他坐在年轻人里，对冉冉升起的国家满怀希望——局外人一般的Irving爱这样的美国啊。
