Wordsworth的自然观中一个特别之处是他对“自然的邪恶性”的理解，他在诗中提及少年时代的不良行为如偷船、杀鸟导致自然的暴怒，但是在这种语境下，他将自然视作其父母或监护人的代理，自然的“愤怒”具有惩罚和教育意义，而非单纯的“作恶”。关于自然“作恶”的观点在Wordsworth之后的诗歌作品中才出现，比如狄金森的Apparently with no surprise和弗罗斯特的directives
