The first and least known of Charlotte Bronte's novels. It was one of the works by which the Bronte sisters hoped to achieve the status of published novelists, but it failed to find a publisher either then or during the author's lifetime. The novel was finally published by her widowed husband.

2018-18: I enjoyed most part of this book. But that, the presence of French conversations or words among English texts, seems a little bit chaotic confusing. It's like an intruder into a parlour where friendly exchanges are making. It may make more senses if put into its historical context.
