With the rise of the women's movement during the last fifteen years, gender differences in the use of time have received increasing attention. Shelton describes how the use of time by women and men has changed during that period, and she analyzes the factors associated with the emerging patterns. Based on data from a national survey, this study focuses on the significant gender differences in the amount of time devoted to paid labor, housework, and leisure, despite popular opinion that the roles of men and women have converged.
