This exhibition catalogue dedicated to Dan Flavin, one of the most important artists of the second half of the 20th century, is published in conjunction with the fall exhibition at Villa Panza in Italy and organized in collaboration with the FAI - Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of New York. The exhibition will be held contemporaneously with the official American consecration of the artist at the National Gallery in Washington D.C. Dan Flavin (1933 - 1996), a chief exponent of Minimalism, is considered one of the most important and innovative artists of the late twentieth century. The book offers an exceptional opportunity to investigate the course of the artist's development and to contemplate the stark simplicity of his light installations that blend color, light and perspective.
Readers will be invited to "walk through" the Varese Corridor, one of the most famous of the site-specific installations realized by the artist, and make their way into the "rooms" housing the works in fluorescent light, as if they were entering a series of chapters in Flavin's life, ranging from suffering to joy, from play to meditation and from the pure and cold clarity of the white compositions to the emotional impact of the most brilliantly colored.
