本書根據作者在美國近20年來英語語法的教與學所積纍的實踐經驗，並按照中國英語語法教與學的國情需求編寫而成。全書共由下列七大部分組成: 一、引言部分（語法規則）; 二、英語的淵源與發展及其影響; 三、掌握控製英語各類詞匯層麵上的錯誤; 四、掌握控製英語句子結構層麵上的錯誤; 五、掌握控製英語不一緻基礎方麵的錯誤; 六、掌握控製英語各類標點符號錯誤; 七，診斷性測試和綜閤測試（內容與上述六大部分相呼應）。此外，每部分還配有相當數量的練習供參閱與訓練。

本書自始至終用生動有趣的語言，以精簡明瞭的錶述手法，全麵係統地闡述瞭整個英語語法體係，可謂是當今國內眾多英語語法書中難得覓見的案頭必備之書。

趙岩博士畢業於中國河北大學英文係。80年代中期去美國普渡大學讀英語語言學，1987年獲英語語言學碩士學位。1994年獲英文博士學位。趙博士學位的第二主讀科目是18世紀英國文學，第三主讀科目是幽默語意和實用分析及研究。

自1990年起，趙博士一直在美國加州承擔大學類語及寫作等課程的教學，積纍瞭豐富的實踐經驗。目前已是美國加州艾爾卡米諾學院（EI College）終身教授。

在執教的同肘，趙博士熱衷於編寫大學英語教材。除本書外，她還編著瞭： A College Reader and Rhetoric ;A Gude and Reader for Critical Thinking； Star Student Essop： A Motivating Reader;均由美國國會圖書館注冊。

趙岩博士現與她的丈夫趙和平博士及他們的兒子喬治（George）和女兒艾米（Amy）住在美國加州的花園城（Garde Grove）。
