书很厚，干货颇多。用数据展示为什么虽然看新闻让人觉得世界人民都生活在水深火热之中，但相比之前现代的残酷和暴力确实是在不断减少的，并分析了决定暴力与和平的种种因素。现代生活虽然也有烦恼甚至痛苦，但长辈们的忆苦思甜也是有道理的。然而国际形势风云诡变，只盼有生之年别碰上什么黑天鹅就好了。

从人类历史上极端暴力时代到今天，暴力逐渐消减的趋势角度，Pinker 在尝试给我们做一个有关人性与暴力之关系的分析

一本相当具有价值的big book, 平克用各种人类残酷的历史和行为、数据、和其他学者的研究，涵盖了各类学科包括了心理学、历史、人类学等等，论述为什么人类的暴力会下降到今天如此低的水平。要解释如此复杂的人类行为，实在很不容易。看完收获相当大。这本书的中文版叫《人性中的善良天使》，我刚好也有中文版，对比了中英两版的一些内容，发现中文版关于中国的内容有多处删改，有条件还是看英文原版比较好。

读了前五章，对一味强调酒神精神的声音是种补充吧，人性中的善良天使需要制度和文明的引导，阴暗面才不致占了上风。
